the beginning

this year is going to be my first full year of trading, one of many to follow.

haven't traded this first week as i wanted the waters to settle and took the time to double check my system and all the rules that come with it. starting next week will start trading again. may we all have a profitable year!

i've worked on some automation experts for the metatrader 4 platform and if/when i can afford it i will open an account with a MT4 broker to go live with it, so far with forward testing i've had some encouraging results, after great backtesting results, we'll see what the results for the month of january will be and take a decision next month.

on a side note apparently there's something wrong with Moneytec's server and i along with some others folks have been banned since the 1st january, hopefully things will get back to normal as i've rediscovered in the end of '05 some interest aspects of that forum/chat room.

Money Management

NAV evolution with different money management formulas applied.

The results are based on the last 106 trades generated by my system..
I got the idea to test different money management rules from some discussions I've read through most of the FX forums around; and it's all about knowing when to increase the risk per trade, lot sizes etc;

One of the things that made me choose Oanda as my broker is that it allows a flexible position sizing, you can trade any number of units from 1 unit to 25 mil. Taking advantage of that I've tested various formulas and this is what I've come up with.

The darker line is the evolution of NAV, when the next trades size is determined by adding/subtracting half of the "%" increase in NAV of the last trade. I followed -~chaffcombe's model but scale it down to a trade by trade, rather than day by day.

The pink line on the chart is a "classical" MM model, that increases the lot sizes when the account grows, according with my systems stop/loss requirements I started with risking 0.5% per/trade and increasing the risk by another 0.5% when the account has gotten to a predetermined level.... (on second thought this is not exactly classical).

The yellow line is the results of increasing the percentage risked per trade by half of the previous trades gain/loss as % NAV, also this started by risking 0.5% on the first trade;
For example if the last trade made 1.5% NAV in profit's, the next trades risk will be 0.5%+ 0.5*1.5%= 1.25% ...it is a rather aggressive model, and still under tests.

Risking the same fixed percentage on every trade proved to be the method that helped the less with compounding so i did not put it on the chart, nor considered to use it myself.

Are you having trouble sticking with your trading plans? It's a common ailment among novice traders. There are a variety of reasons for abandoning a trading plan. Newbie traders, for example, may not trust their trading plans, and understandably, they may abandon them out of fear or because of a wavering sense of confidence. But for some traders, self-discipline may reflect a lack of mental, self-control stamina.

Self-control is similar to a muscle. It's necessary to build up your self-control "muscles" so as to gain complete mastery over your thoughts. Here's a way to "work out" and build up your self-control stamina.
Have you ever been trapped in a situation where all you could do is wait patiently? Perhaps you were squeezed into the middle seat of a jet airliner, and all you could do was wait for the plane to land. Maybe you were in a hot, stuffy conference room and couldn't leave because your boss was sitting next to you as you were supposed to listen attentively. When you are forced to control your impulses, you often find that you can perform heroically. (And if you can't, even when social pressure dictates that you do, you may have major problems learning how to maintain discipline.)
One of the easiest ways to learn about controlling your impulses is to take a meditation class or to work out with a physical trainer. In a meditation class, the instructor will require you to repeat a mantra, or a word or phrase, to focus your attention. When you first try this exercise, you may have a strong tendency to want to stop, get up and walk around. Or you may want to let your mind think about more interesting thoughts instead of focusing on your mantra and your bodily sensations. But the atmosphere of the class will help you practice controlling your thought processes and focus on your present experience. Another way to practice discipline is with a personal trainer. As you exercise, the trainer will require you to concentrate on your ongoing experience; you'll be encouraged to stay focused on the task at hand and concentrate. Over time, you will see what it is like to concentrate intensely. You will use "muscles" in your mind that have atrophied. Soon, you will be able to concentrate and focus, and these mental skills will transfer into the trading arena.
Most of the time, no one is forcing us to stick with a trading plan. But it may be useful to hire a trading coach to help you. Perhaps you can ask a friend to sit with you and remind you to stick with your plan. At first glance, the idea may sound a little silly, but many novice traders have trouble following even a well-detailed training plan, even when a trading coach is sitting beside them. You might want to try it and see if it helps.
Don't underestimate the difficulty of maintaining discipline. It's a skill that few can master. Trading instructors have noted that some of the best traders are former athletes and pilots. Why? It's because people in these professions had to follow a game plan or a set of standard operating procedures to do their job. Following a plan takes discipline, and such discipline is not developed over night. It takes time, effort, and practice. If you have trouble with discipline, don't beat yourself up, or label yourself as "hopelessly impulsive." Self-discipline can be learned. If you put in the effort to learn how to control your impulses, you'll trade like a winner.

Here's a solution, other than just deleting their post obviously, click here to EDIT their posts, copy the delete link go to that webpage and you can edit their posts.

In the first leg of UEFA CUP romanian team had great results against some good opponents,
Rapid Buc. made 1-1 abroad against Feyenord Rotterdam
Steaua Buc. Defeated 3-0 the norvegian championship leader Valerenga
and finally Dinamo Buc. beat at home the 4th. place team in the England premiership, Everton with an astonishing 5-1 to came as close as it gets to qualifying in the Uefa Groups.

we had luck, Steaua draw Rosenborg, a norvegian team who is performing
badly in the internal competition, after 1-1 in Bucharest missing a lot

In an attempt to find out what google knows about romanian forex sites or articles, i found a no. of post on some forums marketing Marketiva, a broker who's main appeal to my countrymen was that it gave 5$ to trade live when an demo acc. was setup, and has a referral program.
I logged in, got my 5$, very happy about that :), and was surprised enough to find a decent platform, nicely put together, with small chats, charting etc. to bad about the excessive high spread 5 pips on cable, 3 on euro.

Returning to the romanian sites about forex, well i didn't find any which gave me a little to think about, obviously there is some interest about it, but no sites up that can provide some usefull information to the public.

Another interesting thing i've stumbled upon is the Optimus Keyboard
has some nice features..and looks like nothing i've ever seen used on computers.

Didn't trade today just watched as the mkt got ready to welcome the news...

the good thing is that i don't feel i have to be on a trade like i used to some while back when i was clearly overtrading, fewer trades some winners some loosers but slowly getting there, just need to exercise my psychological skills a litlle more and "enter the zone" we heard and read so much about.

Again anyone who reads this and has a good way to get on a healthy move while the first signal was missed don't be scarce with u're knowledge.

i've checked the log counter to see if anyone has been reading my blog, and to my surprise i get some "extra traffic" (i didn.t tell but few peops about the blog ). people are ending up on the site just out of the blue and the refferal links don't have anything to do with my site.
